In NHTSA Car Crash Tests, Lowest Score Goes to Chevrolet Cobalt, Lowest Two Scores to Buick LaCrosse, Perfect Scores to Toyota, Mitsubishi, Subaru, and Two Volvos

The 2005 4-door Chevrolet Cobalt received a score of 2, out of 5, in the side impact on driver category of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's crash test results. The score of 2 was the worst score attained by any passenger vehicle tested in any of the four categories - frontal impact on driver, frontal impact on passenger, side impact on driver, and side impact on rear passenger. The Cobalt was the only passenger car tested to receive a score of 2.
The 2005 4-door Buick LaCrosse received two 3s - a 3 for side impact on driver and a 3 for side impact on rear passenger. The Buick LaCrosse was the only passenger car tested to receive two or more scores at or below 3.
At the other end of the quality spectrum, the following vehicles received a score of 5 in all four categories:
The 2005 4-door Toyota Avalon with side air bags The 2005 4-door Subaru Forester with side air bags The 2005 4-door Mitsubishi Galant with side air bags The 2005 4-door Volvo V70 with side air bags The 2005 4-door Volvo XC70 Toyota and Subaru products often excel on a wide range of quality measures. In particular, the 2005 Subaru Forester is a Consumer Reports 2005 Reliability Quick Pick, a CR 2005 Owner Satisfaction Quick Pick, and a CR 2005 Top Pick, and the 2005 Subaru Forester 2.5X is as well a CR 2005 Overall Quick Pick.
