Car models engineered Toyota Motor Corporation garnered 6 spots, or 46% of the entries, on Consumer Reports' fuel economy Quick Pick list. All six entries were from the Toyota line - the Toyota Prius gas-electric hybrid 4-door hatchback in first place, the Toyota Echo (with manual transmission) small sedan in second place, the Toyota MR2 Spyder convertible sportster in fourth place, the Toyota Corolla LE small sedan, the Toyota Celica GT-S 2-door hatchback, and the Toyota Matrix (with front-wheel drive) wagon. Some photographs, with links, of these models appear below.

Honda Motor Company garnered 5 spots, or 38% of the entries, on CR's fuel economy Quick Pick list. One entry was from the Acura line - the Acura RSX Type-S two-door hatchback; four entries were from the Honda line - the Honda Civic Hybrid in third place, The Honda Civic EX, the Honda Civic Si, and the Honda Accord Hybrid. Some photographs, with links, of these models appear below.

Consumer Reports states the criterion for the fuel economy Quick Pick list to be 25 miles per gallon or better in its testing.
Together, models engineered by Toyota or Honda account for 11 of 13 entries on the fuel economy Quick Pick list, or 85% of the list's entries. The remaining two entries originally making the 2005 fuel economy Quick Pick list are the Mazda3 i (with manual transmission) and Mazda3 i (with automatic transmission). The Mazda3 has been pulled from Consumer Reports' recommended list because it earned a rating of "poor" in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's side-impact crash tests1; for the same reason, it may have been pulled from CR's Quick Pick lists as well.
By manufacturer, the entries are divided thusly:
Percentage of Original Entries on Consumer Reports 2005 Fuel Economy Quick Pick List, by Manufacturer Manufacturer Percentage Toyota 46% Honda 38% Mazda* 15% Big Three and all others 0% * Mazda's two entries, the Mazda3 i with manual transmission and the Mazda3 i with automatic transmission, may have been pulled from Consumer Reports' Fuel Economy Quick Pick List due to a "poor" side-impact crash test rating by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The Insurance Institute's rating did cause Consumer Reports to pull the Mazda3 from its recommended list.1 1 "11 of 13 Small Cars Tested Get Lowest Crash Rating," Detroit Free Press, March 7, 2005, http://www.freep.com/money/autonews/crash7e_20050307.htm and "Consumer Reports Pulls Focus As Pick," Detroit Free Press, March 8, 2005, http://www.freep.com/money/autonews/consumer8e_20050308.htm
