Glossary
GM: An abbreviation of General Motors. See also "Does 'GM' Mean 'Junk'?"
Holden Ltd.: The Australian subsidiary of General Motors
Corporation.
Prior to the late 1990s, it went by the name of General Motors-Holden's Ltd.,
but General Motors apparently thought it better for sales not to attach its name
to products sold in Australia.
Reliability Grade - Exacting Standards: The Reliability
Grade - Exacting Standards of a model is a grade assigned to the model based
upon its Reliability Percentrank. Exacting Standards are higher than High

Reliability Percentrank: The Reliability Percentrank of a
model for a given model year is a measure of the model's reliability relative to
that of the other models of the same model year, for which data is available.
Values range from 0.00, the lowest, to 1.00, the highest. For more detail, see

The Big Three: Historically and still currently, the
three largest North American manufacturers of passenger vehicles and light
trucks. They are General Motors Corporation, Ford Motor Company, and the Chrysler
Group of DaimlerChrysler AG, a corporation headquartered in Europe.
The Quality Four: Toyota Motor Corporation, Honda Motor
Company, Subaru Division of Fuji Heavy Industries, Ltd., and Nissan Motor
Company. All four
are
headquartered in Japan, but have manufacturing facilities outside
of Japan, especially in North America, as well as inside Japan.
The Reliable Two: Toyota and Honda. Both are
headquartered in Japan, but both have extensive manufacturing facilities outside
of Japan, especially in North America, as well as inside Japan. Those
manufacturing facilities outside of Japan are often, if not always, owned and
operated by subsidiaries or joint ventures. The reliability of the motor
vehicles made by Toyota Motor Corporation, the parent, have become, rather-to-very
begrudgingly in North America and Europe, the standard against which the
reliability of other vehicles is often compared or contrasted. It is the
standard of this site.
The Top Four: Toyota, Honda, Subaru, and Nissan. All four

especially in North America, as well as inside Japan.
